The Devil They Buried
A downloadable game
I was an outlaw living wild and free
When my crew all turned their coats,
A betrayal I was too late to see
Until they were at my throat.
One pinned a crime on me,
One exiled me from home,
One strung me up a tree,
And another buried my bones.
I rose from the grave to be
A revenant now provoked,
Brought back to life to oversee
My revenge by barrel and gun smoke.

The Devil They Buried is a solo journaling TTRPG following an outlaw revenant’s quest for revenge. Travel across a frontier haunted by your past and write the last chapter of your legacy in bloodied dust.
Inspired by the discography of Johnny Cash, this is not a happy or lighthearted story. It’s a game about betrayal, (un)death, complicated relationships, inner demons, and the path through hell that vengeance makes you walk. Alcohol, gambling, addiction, arson, crime, animal death, and human death all appear in scenes. The prompts are dark, melancholic, and sometimes violent. Player character death is extremely likely, NPC death even more so. If this is the path you want to tread, tell this tale at your own pace.

Still in plaintext when I played it but even without a layout or art the vibes were absolutely immaculate. This is a "drag your heart through the mud and spit on it" kind of journaling game. Great stuff. I'll be playing this one again.
